Forward Phase Dimming

Typically used for incandescent and magnetic low-voltage light sources, this is the most common method of dimming control for traditional light sources. As such, this dimming method usually does not require new wiring. The National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) estimates that there are over 150 million forward phase dimming controllers installed residentially, which will affect control of LED retrofit lighting going forward. A Triac dimmer tends to very sensitive to load sizes and types and may exhibit unreliable performance when used with LED products in terms of flicker, pop on, and drop out, depending on the compatibility of the various components in the circuit and dimming system used. All USAI Triac dimming options are for use with 120V only. A typical forward phase wiring diagram is shown below:

USAI LIGHTING FORWARD PHASE DIMMING SOLUTIONS

DIML9: Our standard Triac forward-phase dimming driver option is often provided standard (check spec sheets) and dims down to 15% at minimum light level. It is the default driver provided with our BeveLED mini series and the NanoLED NXT Cylinder. It is for use with 120V only.

DIML3: Our Lutron Hi-Lume 2-wire forward-phase dimming driver option dims down to 1% at minimum light level and is available as an option with a wide range of USAI products. It is for use with 120V only.
